Indications

Reduce inflammation and pain caused by musculoskeletal and degenerative joint diseases. In the post-operative period, after parenteral analgesia. DOSES AND METHOD OF ADMINISTRATION: Oral administration. The recommended starting dose is 2 to 4 mg carprofen per kg body weight, single or divided into two equal doses. After a 7-day treatment period, depending on the clinical response, the dose may be lowered to 2 mg carprofen per kg body weight per day, in single administration. In the post-operative period, for the extension of the analgesic effect, parenteral treatment with the injectable solution may be followed by oral administration of the tablets at a dose of 4 mg / kg body weight per day for a period of up to 5 days. The duration of treatment depends on the clinical response; after a 14-day treatment period, the surgeon must re-evaluate the dog's clinical condition. Do not exceed the recommended dose. In the overdose with carprofen, there is no specific antidote and a general support treatment of body functions should be instituted according to clinical indications of NSAID overdose. CAUTION: Use in older dogs may cause additional risks. If treatment is absolutely necessary, dogs may require careful clinical follow-up. It is recommended to avoid using the drug in the dehydrated, hypovolemic or hypotensive dog, due to the potential risk of increased renal toxicity. Non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drugs (NSAIDs) can cause inhibition of phagocytosis, therefore appropriate concomitant antimicrobial therapy is required during the treatment of inflammatory conditions associated with bacterial infections. Special precautions to be taken by the person administering the veterinary medicinal product to animals. In case of accidental ingestion of the tablets, seek medical advice immediately and show the package leaflet or the label to your doctor. After handling the product, wash your hands with water CONTRAINDICATIONS It is not used for the cat. It is not used for pregnant or breast-feeding. Do not use for dogs under 4 months of age. It is not used for dogs with heart, liver or kidney disease, if gastrointestinal ulceration or bleeding is possible, or in case of known blood discoloration. SIDE EFFECTS: During the treatment with NSAIDs, the following common side effects have been reported: vomiting, soft stool / diarrhea, occult feces, loss of appetite and lethargy. Generally, these side effects occur during the first week of treatment and are, in most cases, transient and resolve to discontinue therapy, but in very rare cases may be severe or present a vital risk. If any side effects occur, treatment should be discontinued and the advice of the veterinarian should be sought. As with other NSAIDs, there is a risk of rare renal or hepatic adverse events of an allergic nature.
